Helix Animation is delighted to be part of the 2024 Medical Illustration & Animation Sourcebook, an annual publication gathering in one place the world's leading biomedical, life science, and natural science artists and medical animation companies.
This year’s printed edition on a two-page spread would feature our 3D visualization of an immune cells universe with focus on mast cell degranulation.
The activation and degranulation of mast cells significantly modulates many aspects of physiological and pathological conditions in various settings. With respect to normal physiological functions, mast cells are known to regulate vasodilation, vascular homeostasis, innate and adaptive immune responses, angiogenesis, and venom detoxification. On the other hand, mast cells have also been implicated in the pathophysiology of many diseases, including allergy, asthma, anaphylaxis, gastrointestinal disorders, many types of malignancies, and cardiovascular diseases. The cytoplasm of the mast cell contains 50–200 large granules that store inflammatory mediators, including histamine, heparin, a variety of cytokines, chondroitin sulfate, and neutral proteases.
