World Kidney Day 2024

Did you know that your kidneys filter all your blood every 30 minutes.

Today we celebrate World Kidney Day - a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the crucial importance of kidneys to our overall health.

Helix Animation team joins in these efforts with a stylized kidney representation depicting what’s beyond the bean-shaped form, presenting the structure where the various essential kidney functions take place.

Kidneys are highly complex organs that perform many essential tasks to keep us healthy. Their main function is to remove wastes, toxins, and excess fluid. But they also help control blood pressure, stimulate production of red blood cells, keep your bones healthy, and regulate blood chemicals that are essential to life.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive loss in kidney function over a longer period (months or years). Each kidney has around a million tiny filters, called nephrons. If nephrons are damaged, they stop working. For a while, healthy nephrons can take on the extra work. But if the damage continues, more and more nephrons shut down. After a certain point, the nephrons that are left cannot filter your blood well enough to keep you healthy. When kidney function falls below a certain point, it is called kidney failure. Kidney failure affects your whole body, and can make you feel very ill. Untreated kidney failure can be life-threatening.

World Kidney Day (WKD), a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA), is a global campaign that aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems.
